Product Description
Oat Extract – FDA GRAS & Health Claim supported. A proven ingredient for cardiovascular and skin health product formulations.
Product Description
Oat Extract is a concentrated powder of characteristic active ingredients refined from specified botanical raw materials, with oat beta-glucan and avenanthramides as the main active components. It meets the quality standard of beta-glucan 5%-10%, offering multiple benefits including cardiovascular health support, blood sugar management, antioxidant protection, and skin soothing and moisturizing. It is widely used in health foods, functional foods, and personal care products. Our oat extract is sourced from premium European oat varieties (beta-glucan ≥4%), suitable for cardiovascular health and skin care product development.
Oat extract is one of the most mature and clinically validated functional grain extracts globally, with extensive applications in cardiovascular health supplements and skin care. The global oat extract market is driven by growing consumer demand for heart-healthy functional foods and natural skin-soothing cosmetic ingredients. In 2024, the global oat beta-glucan market alone was valued at over USD 200 million. Oat extract has GRAS status in the US and is recognized as a traditional herbal medicine ingredient in Europe, making it one of the easiest botanicals to launch across multiple regulatory jurisdictions.
Why Choose Nutraligting Oat Extract Powder?
As a specialty supplier focused exclusively on cardiovascular health and skincare oat ingredients, we deliver clear, tangible advantages that set us apart from global peers:
- Dual-Active Single Ingredient
Unlike competitors selling isolated beta-glucan or single-function oat straw extracts, our product combines cardiovascular-supporting beta-glucan and anti-inflammatory avenanthramides in one SKU, cutting formulation complexity and supply chain risk for multi-target products. - High-Potency Raw Material
We source oats directly from Inner Mongolia and Hebei, with native beta-glucan levels 2%-3%. This higher per-unit potency lowers required dosage and boosts your final formulation cost-efficiency. - Codex-Compliant Gluten-Free Option
Our dedicated gluten-free oat extract tests below 20ppm per Codex standards, letting you safely target the fast-growing celiac and gluten-sensitive segment with a rare “heart-healthy + gluten-free” positioning almost no competitor can offer. - Native Full Water Solubility
Our extract disperses completely in aqueous systems up to 2% concentration with no extra emulsification required, perfectly suited for ready-to-drink beverages, effervescent tablets and clear liquid formulations to cut your production costs.

Botanical Source Description
The raw material of Oat Extract product is the dried mature seeds or aerial parts of Avena sativa L. (Family: Poaceae). Primary growing regions include Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, and Hebei provinces in China, as well as Northern Europe (France, Germany, Denmark). Oat is a classic food-medicine dual-use grain, rich in beta-glucan, avenanthramides, and saponins. The American FDA has approved oat beta-glucan health claims for reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. In European traditional medicine, oat straw has long been used for nervous system support and metabolic health.
Core Efficacy
Oat Extract has the strongest scientific evidence among botanicals for cardiovascular health support. Beta-glucan, a soluble dietary fiber, has been shown to significantly reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels. A meta-analysis published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2019) found that beta-glucan supplementation at 3g/day reduced total cholesterol by 0.32 mmol/L and LDL cholesterol by 0.27 mmol/L across 13 clinical trials. The FDA health claim (1997) states: “Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 3g of soluble beta-glucan fiber from oat products per day may reduce the risk of heart disease.” For blood sugar management, beta-glucan forms a viscous gel in the gastrointestinal tract that slows glucose absorption, reducing postprandial blood sugar spikes. In skin care, colloidal oatmeal (finely ground oat extract) is FDA-approved as a skin protectant for relieving minor skin irritation and itching. Avenanthramides, unique to oats, exhibit potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity – Kim et al. (Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2020) demonstrated that avenanthramide A inhibited NF-κB activation and reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in human keratinocytes by up to 70%. Additionally, oat extract has shown neuroprotective and hepatoprotective effects in preclinical studies.

Recommended Daily Dosage Reference
General health support: Follow product specifications and formulator recommendations
Cardiovascular support: Beta-glucan 3g/day (equivalent to ~30-60mg per capsule at 5% grade, 3 times daily)
Skin care / personal care: Addition level depends on the specific product; recommended 0.1-2.0% (w/w)
Note: Beta-glucan is water-soluble — excellent for beverages; avenanthramides are alcohol-soluble – consider co-solvent systems for combined extracts
Other Precautions
- CRITICAL: Beta-glucan is highly hygroscopic – protect from moisture and minimize headspace in containers after opening
- For oral formulations: Beta-glucan is water-soluble – easy to incorporate into beverages, soups, and liquid drinks; pre-disperse in warm water before adding to cold systems
- For beverages: Beta-glucan solutions are viscous at concentrations >1%; recommend 0.3-0.5% final concentration for optimal mouthfeel
- For high-temperature processing (>80°C): Beta-glucan is thermally stable, but avenanthramides may degrade – recommend post-addition or microencapsulation for heat-sensitive applications
- For personal care: Colloidal oatmeal (particle size <150μm) is required for FDA skin-protectant claims; fine-grade oat extract disperses better in emulsions
- Oat Extract is a botanical-derived product; generally recognized as safe. Oat beta-glucan has GRAS status for dietary use
- Individuals with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease should use gluten-free certified oat extract, as conventional oats may be cross-contaminated with gluten-containing grains during cultivation
