The raw material is the dried branches and leaves of the Cupressaceae plant Platycladus orientalis (L.) Franco. Mainly produced in Shandong, Henan, Hebei, Liaoning, and other regions. The 2020 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia records the standard for Platycladus leaves. Platycladus leaves are bitter and astringent in taste, cold in nature, and belong to the lung, liver, and spleen meridians, with effects of cooling blood and stopping bleeding, resolving phlegm and relieving cough, promoting hair growth, and darkening hair. Tai’an, Shandong is the main production area. The main active components are quercetin, myricetin, and thujone.
