Product Description

Tongkat Ali Extract (Tongkat Ali Extract, scientific name Eurycoma longifolia, mainly using roots and rhizomes as raw material) is a standardized plant extract originating from Southeast Asia (mainly Malaysia and Indonesia). Its signature active constituent is eurycomanone. Common specifications include 1%-4% eurycomanone or 100:1 / 200:1 ratio extracts. It is a classic popular ingredient in the male health segment of dietary supplements.

Core Active Ingredient – Eurycomanone

Eurycomanone belongs to the quassinoid class of tetracyclic diterpenes and serves as the primary standardized marker for Tongkat Ali extract. Research indicates it can support stable endogenous testosterone production by modulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis and inhibiting negative feedback mechanisms. It is currently one of the natural-origin compounds with clinical study support for testosterone level support.

Standardized Water-Soluble Extract

A standardized water-soluble extract at a dosage of 200 mg/day is used as the intervention dose, which is fundamentally different from non-standardized raw material powders. Standardized specifications ensure batch-to-batch consistency of active constituents and represent the preferred raw material form for end-product brand procurement.

Common Market Specifications

Eurycomanone 1%-10% (HPLC) is the first choice for functional supplement formulations; 100:1 / 200:1 ratio extracts are suitable for product lines that emphasize concentration ratios as a selling point. The two have different positioning and should be selected based on target formulation and claim strategy.

Botanical Raw Material Introduction

Eurycoma longifolia Jack belongs to the Simaroubaceae family, genus Eurycoma. It is a small evergreen tree native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand. In Malaysia, it is revered alongside bird’s nest and tinware (tin artefacts) as one of the “Three National Treasures of Malaysia,” and is locally known as “Malaysian Ginseng.”

The plant grows extremely slowly, requiring more than 5 years to reach natural maturity and up to 25 years for full maturity. Tree height ranges from 4 to 12 meters. The root system is well developed with a deep taproot; the medicinal part is the dried root. Due to scarce wild resources and a long growth cycle, high-quality raw materials mainly come from standardized plantation sources in Malaysia. Raw materials traceable to their origin enjoy a significant price premium in European and American markets.

The main active constituents in Tongkat Ali root include: quassinoid diterpenes (with eurycomanone as the primary standardized marker), also containing eurycomanol, eurycomalactone, and others; beta-carboline alkaloids; triterpene saponins; coumarins; and lignans.

In the traditional medicine systems of Southeast Asia, Tongkat Ali has a history of hundreds of years of use as an aphrodisiac, anti-fatigue, and antipyretic herb. The modern botanical extract industry employs water extraction or 70% ethanol-water extraction processes, using eurycomanone content as the standardization basis, making it one of the fastest-growing plant extract ingredients in the global male health supplement market, maintaining strong demand in European, American, Southeast Asian, and Chinese Hong Kong and Taiwan markets.
